VILENJAK

GOLD COIN
Vilenjak is a tiny fantasy nation along the border of Croatia and Slovenia.  It consists of 3 residences located on 43 hectares with a population of maybe 20.  The only bridge into the isolated community was washed out in the early 1970's.  Unable to get the government to rebuild the bridge, they declared independence, which seems to have been tolerated by local authorities.  In 2012 they issued a tiny square gold coin to help raise funds to build a new, permanant bridge.  The 50 Vinar coin is struck in .999 fine gold,  weighs 2 grains and is just 6mm on each side (about 1/4 inch square).  One side has the date and name of the country, the other side has the denomination.

BASSAS DA INDIA

BI-METAL COINS

Bassas da India is an uninhabited atoll about halfway between Madagascar and Mozambique.  It is a French possession that is also claimed by Madagascar.  The island is the site of numerous shipwrecks and is popular with divers. It recently issued three 2012 dated coins, each featuring a famous French warship.
