GOLD PLATED COINS ON TITANIC

 

Tristan da Cunha issued has issued these Gold plated Proof coins to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the departure and sinking of the Titanic in 1912. One coin pictures the ships departure on her maiden voyage from Southampton and the date April 10, 1912 and the another coin pictures the ship sinking and the date April 15, 2012 . Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of the coins.

 

GOLD PLATED COIN

A piece of the windshield of a World War II British Spitfire fighter is embedded in this Brilliant Uncirculated 2010 gold-plated 5 Pound coin from Tristan da Cunha.  The coin commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. One side features three Spitfires in flight and a multi-color British flag.  The other side portrays Queen Elizabeth.





GOLD PLATED SILVER COIN

This Proof Gold Plated Silver Crown with an embedded Diamond, Ruby and Sapphire. Issued in 2006 to celebrate the 80th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.





GOLD PLATED COIN ON CONCORDE

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the first test flight of the supersonic Concorde, the tiny island of Tristan da Cunha issued this coin. This 5 Pounds coin is 38.6mm in diameter. The gold-plated coin contains a small piece of the titanium alloy heat shield from Concorde aircraft. The 2009 dated coin pictures Queen Elizabeth on the obverse. The reverse pictures the famous aircraft, which has been retired from service, along with its specifications and a small piece of the aircraft.

Tristan da Cunha is a small, wet and windy island in the mid-Atlantic.  In 2008 Tristan da Cunha issued its first coin set. The eight coin set includes a large (38mm) copper-nickel 1 crown that depicts a pair of whales.  The bi-metallic 25 pence features a pair of bottlenose dolphins. A killer whale (Orca) is on the brass 20 pence.  A crab is on the 10 pence.  The 5 pence shows a sea turtle. A violet seasnail is on the 2 pence.  The 1 pence shows a lobster. A snipe eel is on the 1/2 Pence.  Because Tristan da Cunha is a British posession, Queen Elizabeth is on the obverse.
