French Oceania was created to administer French territories in the Pacific Ocean , the most famous of which is Tahiti . Its first coins included this attractive aluminum 50 Centimes dated 1949. It features a tropical scene, with swaying palm trees, small boats and sea shells on one side and a seated "Spirit of the Republic" on the other. It was issued only a single year. French Oceania later became French Polynesia .
