SEALAND

It is difficult to find Sealand on the map. Because it is a self-declared nation located on an abandoned 10,000 square foot W.W.II era radar platform approximately 6 miles off the coast of England. Sealand was founded in 1967 when Prince Roy occupied the platform, declared it a sovereign nation, and set up a pirate radio station. Though the British government tried to shut down the operation, the British courts held that Sealand was located in international waters and beyond the governments jurisdiction, so he was free to operate his own "nation". Since then the British government opened the country up to commercial radio.
