Alderney is a British possession off the coast of France in the English Channel.  It has an area of about 3 square miles (7.8 km2). In 1999 they issued this 2 Pound coin to commemorate the Total Eclipse of the Sun.  The copper-nickel 38.5mm coin pictures St Anne's church and two Northern Gannet birds staring at the eclipse.  The church, the only Anglican church on the island, was consecrated in 1850.   Queen Elizabeth is on the obverse of the coin.
